Turn on, Tune in, and Drop out: American Counterculture of the 1960s

Essential Question: How did the counterculture change Amercia during the 1960's?

The counterculture of the 1960s was a rebellion against the culture and values of American society. It was partially a reaction to the US's growing involvement in the Vietnam War. The country's involvement in the conflict highlighted what many people saw as western society's faults. The youth of America were encouraged to branch away from these faults in a movement that wasn't exactly a protest against the war, but a shift away from American hypocrisy, militancy, and materialism.

In this analysis of the counterculture movement, we will consider four different aspects of the era:

  • Sixties: Years of Hopes, Days of Rage
  • American Dreaming
  • The 1960's
  • The Incredible Sixties
